Current Knowledge of Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes

Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) is a serious pregnancy complication that increases that risk of preterm birth. Two major factors involved in PPROM are oxidative stress and inflammation. Macrophages serve an important role in healing by clearing damaged tissue and supporting repair. MIF may influence how well macrophages perform these functions, especially during the repair process after PPROM. This review explores the important role of MIF and macrophages in the healing process of of PPROM and how they might interact. Understanding the interaction between MIF and macrophages could lead to new treatments that improve healing and preventing side effects for both mother and baby after PPROM.
