Characterization and Analysis of Network Failures in CENIC: A Methodological Approach
As enterprises increasingly depend on complex and expansive networks, ensuring high availability and uninterrupted service has become a critical challenge. This study focuses on analyzing network failures within the CENIC (Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California) network to better understand their occurrence, impact, and mitigation strategies. Using data collected from six UC campuses, we map routing changes to corresponding IS-IS failures and perform further characterization of unexpected network behaviors such as routing loops and non-existent links. The analysis highlights key patterns in failure recovery times, the prevalence of routing anomalies, and the implications for network performance, providing insights to enhance network reliability with minimal overhead.
