Armour Conferences on Radio Interference Reduction – 1954–1964: The Sixth Year – 1960
The “Armour Conferences” were a series of Radio Interference Conferences held in the Chicago, Illinois area from 1954 to 1964. Initially, they were sponsored by United States military services and organized by the Armour Research Foundation, which was formed in 1936 as a spin-off from the Armour Institute of Technology. The Armour Institute of Technology was established in 1893 through a gift of one million dollars from Philip Danforth Armour, one of the wealthiest men in Chicago, known for founding Armour and Company, a meat-packing company started in 1863. Exactly one hundred years later, in 1963, the Armour Research Foundation changed its name to the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute (IITRI), though it retained its reputation as an independent, not-for-profit research organization.
