Analysis of Walking, Turinig, and Sitting Down Movment

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the amount of turn during walk-to-sit movement affected the symmetry of sitting.Twenty-fi ve healthy young males were recruited for this study. Each subject performed walk-to-sit that included walking forward, turning, and sitting without stopping.A three-dimensional motion analyzer and fl oor reaction force plates were used. Two types of indices were calculated from the data: The fi rst, an index for turning, the second, an index for symmetry during sitting.Regarding the turning, subjects performed two kinds of turn; fi rst forward step turn and then backward step turn.We investigated which turn affected the symmetry determined by the amount of turn, foot repositioning, and frontal shift of the center of gravity during sitting. The results showed that the amount of fi rst turn affected the symmetry of the sitting movement. However, the movements such as rotating the patient during the single leg support phase may pose a risk of falling for patients who become unsteady during the rotation phase. For this reason, when these patients do the walk-to-sit it is recommended that patients at risk of falling should enter the chair from an angle rather than from the front.
