The flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, tannin and steroid components were qualitatively analyzed. The quantitative analysis of the stem and leaf extract of Vietnamese Sa ginseng contained a large amount of polyphenol compounds (290.90 mg GAEs/g extract), flavonoids (85.47 mg QEs/g extract) and saponins (10.8% on dry leaf weight). Medicinal plants have long played a very important role in human health. Secondary metabolites are compounds synthesized from plants with various essential and specific functions [1]. Secondary metabolites contained in extracts or dried plant samples are considered promising materials for the development of new pharmaceuticals. Sa sâm (Launaea sarmentosa (Willd) Schultz-Bip.ex Kuntze), is a climbing herb, belonging to the Asteraceae family. Up to now, this plant has been used in traditional medicine and in the community for many different purposes, but its chemical composition and biological activities as well as its biological role have not been fully studied and implemented in practice. This work was carried out with the aim of analyzing some chemical components, quantifying valuable biological compounds such as saponins, polyphenols, flavonoids and evaluating the ability to inhibit α-glucosidase enzyme, antioxidant activity, biological and pharmacological effects of ethanol and methanol extracts of the stems and leaves of Vietnamese Sa ginseng.
