Numeral System of Dukpa and Meeteilol: A Comparative Study
The purpose of this research work is to discuss about the morpho-syntactic features of Dukpa and Meeteilol or Meiteilon numerals system. In terms of structure, 7 (seven) main categories of numerals system in Dukpa as well as in Meeteilol can be seen. They are (i) cardinal numerals, (ii) ordinal numerals, (iii) fractional numerals, (iv) multiplicative numerals, (v) distributive numerals, (vi) restricted numerals, and (vi) approximate numerals. As observed in other SOV languages, the numerals in both these languages also often come after the head nouns. The paper not only will highlight the similarities in the numeral formation processes across these languages, but also illustrate the contrasts that exist.
