Development of a multiparameter phantom system for multispectral imaging
Multispectral imaging enables the visualization of physiological parameters, such as oxygen saturation (SO2) and lipid distribution. Assessing the performance of such imaging techniques necessitates the development of tissue-mimicking phantoms or phantom systems. However, the applicability of existing approaches is constrained by their reliance on homogeneous, unlayered tissue phantom and the absence of traceable reference standards. We propose a multiparameter phantom system featuring bidirectionally tunable SO2 and a multilayered configuration comprising vascular, mucosal, and lipid layers. A blood gas analyzer was integrated as a calibration reference standard for SO2 to ensure traceability. Two multispectral endoscopic imaging methods were validated using the phantom system. This cost-effective platform addresses the current gap in standardized evaluation of endoscopic devices for physiological parameter visualization.
