Hypoxia, Humidity and Low Temperature on In-flight Dry Eye

Dry eye syndrome represents a complex disorder of the ocular surface, marked by a disruption in the equilibrium of the tear film.Factors that interfere with the tear film, ocular surface integrity, or eyelid functionality can lead to an impairment of tear film homeostasis. The predominant elements contributing to dry eye encompass instability of the tear film, elevated tear film osmolarity, inflammation of the ocular surface, epithelial injury, and various associated anomalies.Epidemiological studies indicate that dry eye syndrome is observed with greater frequency among airline personnel and frequent flyers in comparison to the broader population. This increased susceptibility is largely ascribed to the distinctive environmental factors present in aircraft cabins, which include diminished humidity, low ambient
