FROM THE HISTORY OF ARMENIAN ECONOMIC THOUGHT: ECONOMIC PORTRAIT OF STEPAN GULISHAMBAROV (1849-1915) /
The article examines the views of one of the prominent Armenian economists - Stepan Gulishambarov. He was a historian of economic development of his time. A significant part of his works has been translated into English, French, and German. They are devoted to numerous issues of economic development of both Russia and the Caucasus, and the entire world, and contain rich material for studying the history of the national economy. His work “World Trade in the 19th Century and Russia’s Participation in It” was awarded the gold medal of the Russian Imperial Geographical Society. Gulishambarov believed that the development of productive forces and the associated deepening of the social division of labor, in a word, the "cultural-historical progress" of humanity in its most general sense, became the reason for the formation of the world economy. Gulishambarov's works contain a wealth of material on the branches of the economy, and practical recommendations are of no small importance for its development.
