Synthesis of C/MoS2–FeMo2S4–MoC for Application in Li–O2 Batteries

The key to enhancing the performance of Li–O2 batteries (LOBs) lies in the development of highly efficient cathode materials. In this work, the C/MoS2–FeMo2S4–MoC composite was successfully designed and synthesized via a multistep process. First, porous C/MoS2 was hydrothermally prepared. Subsequently, dopamine was coated onto the surface of C/MoS2, followed by the introduction of iron salts to form precipitates. Finally, FeMo2S4 and MoC were generated within the porous C/MoS2 matrix through interfacial reactions induced by high-temperature calcination. The heterointerfaces of MoS2 with FeMo2S4 and MoC significantly boosted the activities of the catalyst. Furthermore, the mesoporous structure facilitates the efficient diffusion of O2 and Li+, and it also enables uniform deposition of Li2O2 via its highly active interface. The Li–O2 battery constructed with C/MoS2–FeMo2S4–MoC as the cathode material demonstrated a low overpotential of 0.98 V, a high specific capacity of 19,203 mAh g–1, and an excellent rate performance and cycling stability. This study developed a cost-effective multi-interface heterojunction cathode material through Fe doping, providing a new impetus for the industrial development of LOBs.
