Ankle Foot Orthosis for Foot Drop

This paper introduces an innovative Articulated Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AAFO) designed to enhance mobility, stability, and rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with neuromuscular disorders. Traditional AFOs often restrict natural ankle movement, leading to discomfort and inefficient gait patterns. Our advanced AAFO integrates adaptive joint mechanisms and lightweight, durable materials to provide dynamic support while allowing controlled dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. This innovation is particularly beneficial for individuals with foot drop, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and peripheral neuropathy. The device incorporates customizable settings for optimized fit and function, ensuring improved biomechanics and reduced energy expenditure during ambulation. By addressing both structural support and functional adaptability, this next-generation AAFO aims to significantly improve patient mobility, comfort, and quality of life.
