Analysis of Harmonics in EV Charging Infrastructure with Multilevel Inverter Solutions
Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular, raising the need for a reliable and effective charging infrastructure. However, the harmonic distortions brought on by non-linear loads are the main cause of power quality (PQ) problems when EV chargers are integrated into power grids. A potential remedy for these issues is multilevel inverters (MLIs), which increase energy efficiency and lesser harmonic distortions in EV charging systems. The study assesses several multilevel inverter topologies and their control schemes to reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) under various charging conditions. The study also lists opportunities for further work in the case of harmonic reduction and the evolution of the MLIs for high-power electric vehicle charging applications. These findings offer crucial information for creating an EV charging infrastructure that is both practical and PQ compatible in order to encourage the broad use of EVs.
