Investigation of Properties of Aluminium Metal matrix composite reinforced by Aluminium Oxide using ANSYS
Irregularly Reinforced particle composites have become a popular class of composite materials in recent decades. Still, they present significant challenges in processing, characterization, and machinability due to their increased strength-weight ratio, stiffness, specific strength, and oxidation when compared to various metals and alloys. This study presents the experimental and computational investigation of the mechanical properties of an aluminum metal matrix reinforced with aluminum oxide (4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%), compaction pressure (kN), and hold time (s) using Design of Experiments and Finite Element Analysis. Initially, this study examines the experimental process optimization of Aluminum Matrix reinforced with aluminium oxide to determine the most advantageous processing conditions by altering the reinforcing materials. Furthermore, this article focuses on calculating "Tensile Test Analysis, Thermal Analysis, Total deformation, and equivalent (von-mises) stress" using Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS Workbench-2023R1). The trial findings revealed that using aluminium oxide reinforcement material resulted in enhanced hardness levels. The applied load (250) resulted in increased thermal conductivity and lower density. The simulation results revealed the equivalent stress, total deformation, tensile analysis, and thermal analysis. This experimental and modeling showed that the powder metallurgy technique can be used to create a continuously reinforced particulate composite with reinforcement aluminum oxide particles.
