Power Control in DFIG Fed Wind Turbine using Pitch Controller in Coordination with Voltage Reference

In present scenario wind turbines (WT) with doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) are incorporated for wind power generation. As wind velocity is variant in nature, therefore generated power must limit its rated value whenever wind speed changes. This work proposes the DFIG based wind turbine model to examine various parameters under operating conditions. This paper proposes voltage reference control method to observe the operating characteristics under the variation of wind speed through pitch angle control. Variations in the machine's rotor speed, torque, active power, and reactive power in response to changes in wind velocity. As the wind velocity increases above its nominal base speed, then the output power (active power) of the generator is increases beyond the limit (above 1 p.u.), which can damage the machine as well. Here, the blade pitch angle regulates to accommodate the changes caused by an increase in wind velocity.
