An Investigation on Radiation Shielding Properties of (1-x)B2O3-xBi2O3 (0.80>X>0.20) Glasses
An attempt has been made to investigate the radiation shielding characteristic of glasses (1-x)B2O3-xBi2O3 within the range of composition (0.80>X>0.20). The shielding parameters like LAC, MAC, MFP, Zeff, Ne, HVL, and TVL have been computed using the WinXcom program. Further, the energy exposure buildup factor (EBF) has been computed in the energy range from 15-15000 KeV with 1 to 40 mfp penetration. In this paper, the major observation was that the shielding properties of glass samples depend on the concentration of Bi2O3 and incident photon energy. Further, after analyzing all samples, sample 4 contains 80% Bi2O3 and exhibits superior radiation shielding ability among the chosen glasses.
