Pattern and Polarization Reconfiguration MIMO Indoor base station antenna for 5G applications
The paper represents an Indoor base station antenna for 5G applications as a rectangular slot-shaped defective ground structure (RDGS) is designed for a pattern-reconfigurable MIMO antenna. This incorporates a RF PIN diode, enabling reconfigurability by allowing the MIMO antenna to resonate at 3.65 GHz depending on the diode’s state. The proposed structure, with 53 × 25 mm2 size, is simulated at 1.6 mm height in FR4 substrate and analysed using the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The measured bandwidth at 3.65 GHz is 0.2 GHz. Key performance metrics include an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) below 0.2. The simulated output shows the proposed topology is a promising structured design for deployment in 5G base station communications.
