Analysis of Mass Attenuation Coefficient and other Parameters of Soil Samples at Gamma Ray Energy of 356-1275 KeV
The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) is indeed a useful parameter for quantitatively assessment the interaction of gamma rays with soil samples. The γ-ray MAC depends on the energy of incident photons and the nature of the shielding materials. In this paper, the mass attenuation coefficient (μm), Mean free path (MFP), HVL (half-value layer) and Tenth Value Layer (TVL) of soil samples has been analyzed at gamma-ray energy of 356-1275 KeV. After Analysis of different samples, it has been observed all the relevant parameters depend strongly on incident energy and density of the soil samples. The gamma emitters in any soil sample may be identified using these parameters in this study. This approach is helpful for researching the characteristics of soils for agricultural applications.
