Designing a Secure Campus Area Network with an Advanced DNS System
Computer networks play an important role in organizational operations in support of automation, e-learning, communication, administration, and libraries. The efficient processing of data and information flow in a structured manner within the university network is essential. This paper proposes designing an advanced university network topology using Cisco Packet Tracer. The focus here is on the use of wireless connectivity and mobility. It will include Internet Protocol (IP) configuration, topology design, and the transmission of packets of data among the university sites. To enhance resource utilization, the proposed design expands Domain Name System (DNS), Email, and Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure servers (HTTP) for equal functionality among staff and students. The novelty of this work is in its end-to-end simulation of a complete working network, combining wired and wireless setups, dynamic addressing, DNS-based domain name resolution, email server configuration, and security features. It is a realistic, scalable, and flexible model for academic, research, or enterprise networking use.
