Eco-Friendly Plastic and Organic Waste Vending Machine (EPWVM)
The Eco-Friendly Plastic and Organic Waste Vending Machine (EPWVM) is a dual-compartment reverse vending machine that encourages effective waste segregation by users. One of the compartments collects plastic waste whereas the other compartment collects biodegradable waste. The plastic compartment collects the waste and stores it in the vending machine. And then, it is sent to recycling centers. The biodegradable compartment collects the biodegradable waste and efficiently separates biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, if the waste exceeds 60% of non-biodegradable waste it rejects and stores without providing incentives to the user. Conversely, when the ratio falls below 60%, the waste undergoes further processing and the waste undergoes a natural composting process that eliminates the need for chemical additives using black soldier fly (BSF) larvae within a 20-day time frame. The larvae yield nutrient-rich compost beneficial for soil health, by breaking down the organic matter. Meanwhile, non-biodegradable waste is recycled to mitigate its environmental impact. By harnessing the power of BSF larvae for composting, the process remains entirely natural, minimizing reliance on harmful chemicals. Moreover, the incorporation of an incentivization system motivates users to adopt eco-friendly practices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship. In summary, the EPWVM represents a comprehensive solution to waste management, promoting sustainability while actively involving users in the process.
