Exploring the Relationship between ENSO Events and Socio-Economic Impacts in Asia: A Bibliometric Approach
El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is an important climate phenomenon that impacts the weather of many parts of the world and is known to have socioeconomic consequences, especially in Asia. Using a bibliometric approach, this study analyses the research landscape in ENSO and its socio-economic impacts across various sectors. Through an overview of the extant literature, the paper sorts of studies into three categories: by regional focus, methodologies, and thematic contributions to give an extensive overview of research trends and broader socio-economic implications of ENSO. These results reveal major research trends, including a growing interest in ENSO, agricultural productivity, water resources, and disaster management. Climate-related economic losses from floods, droughts, and changes in monsoon patterns induced by ENSO events have usually been the focus of research affecting agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure. Other areas perhaps coming into focus include climate adaptation strategies, vulnerability assessments, and integration of climate models for better forecasting risk management.
