Native Bees As A Tool For Eco-Literacy in A Public School in Manaus – Amazonas

Objective: To explore how the integration of native Amazonian bees with the Eco-Literacy Methodology will improve the educational process of 3rd grade students at a public school in Manaus. The proposal seeks to create activities of an interdisciplinary nature that combine environmental knowledge and formal education. This facilitates the goal of promoting ecological knowledge and cognitive skills simultaneously Theoretical Framework: Derived from Eco-literacy, proposed by Fritjof Capra and David Orr, this doctrine advocates combining formal education with ecological principles to promote a comprehensive understanding of life. The research also involves authors such as Layrargues and Queiroz, who present opinions on sustainability, environmental perception and critical education. Method: The research used a qualitative methodology with numerical components, whose main technique was the case study of children's drawings. The categorization was based on environmental indicators aimed at measuring the students' environmental awareness. These indicators were descriptive in nature and supported by statistical analysis to assess the students' environmental perception. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the majority of students demonstrated aesthetic devotion and love for the natural world, in line with David Orr's theory. However, a low degree of understanding of more complex ecological principles, such as those proposed by Capra, was observed, which was problematic in the context of complete ecological understanding. Research Implications: The study demonstrated that using native bees as a teaching tool increases student interest and participation, facilitating the literacy process. It also illustrated the potential of eco-literacy to combine environmental content with school subjects in a fun and interrelated way. Originality/Value: The research demonstrates that environmental literacy with native bees could serve as an effective strategy for dealing with learning disabilities in public schools. In addition, it broadened the inclusion of environmental education in the curriculum in a practical and contextualized way.
