Male Nurse’s Experience of Sexual Harassment in Hospital
This study was conducted to identify the essential structure and meaning of sexual harassment experienced by nurses, and to prevent sexual harassment and establish systematic intervention measures. Data were collected from six research participants of general hospital nurses from May to November 2024, using Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological research method and in-depth interviews. The main question used in the interview was, "What does sexual harassment mean to you?" The transcribed data were analyzed through the stages of overall recognition, division of meaning units, transformation of meaning units into psychological expressions, and integration into general structures according to Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological analysis method. As a result, a total of 141 meaning units, 20 sub-themes, and 6 themes were derived. The 6 themes include 'The standard of emotion lies with the listener', 'Thinking about the power relationship', 'Shaking scales', 'Open doors and closed doors', 'Hidden voices', and 'The journey of life balance and healing'. Based on the above results, it is expected to provide useful basic data for preventing sexual harassment of nurses, establishing systematic intervention measures for them, and improving the system.
