EFEITOS DA ABORDAGEM OSTEOPÁTICA EM NEONATOS COM DIFICULDADE NA BIOMECÂNICA DA AMAMENTAÇÃO
This study aims to demonstrate that osteopathy is a treatment that has been used since 1874, created in the United States by physician Andrew Taylor Still. Osteopathy is a specialty of physical therapy that seeks to treat bodily changes, especially mechanical dysfunctions that interfere with the body’s functions and generate health imbalances. Breast milk has numerous advantages, including reduced infant morbidity and mortality. For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health recommend exclusive breastfeeding until six months of age. However, many mothers interrupt this process early, often due to biomechanical difficulties present in the newborn’s first month of life. Some authors relate these difficulties to cranial dysfunctions and changes in the skull sutures. When the baby has difficulty sucking, several factors may be the cause. The newborn’s skull is not completely ossified at birth, which allows it to adapt to the pressures of childbirth. Although these deformations usually reverse spontaneously, osteopathic interventions may be indicated when they persist, contributing to successful breastfeeding.
