Monoparesis postanterior cervical discectomy and fusion surgery - An uncommon sequelae
Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion is a regular procedure in the neurosurgery theatre. But the range of post operative sequelae exists in a wide spectrum starting from complete symptom relief to varying complications with preexisting conditions. Monoparesis is one of the rare complication accounting of about 0.5% with variable recovery rates. New onset monoparesis in post operative period is a terrific time for patient, family and surgeon. A word of caution for new or worsening deficits during pre op counseling in acute cervical disc disease or chronic trauma patients is important in present scenario.
