Successful management of gastric variceal hemorrhage in a patient with chronic liver disease using coil-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration
This case report presents a rare instance of severe gastric variceal hemorrhage in a patient with chronic liver disease and a large gastrorenal shunt, managed successfully with coil-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration. This procedure often reserved for patients with complex variceal presentations, demonstrated effectiveness in achieving hemostasis and minimizing rebleeding risk. The patient also developed spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, managed effectively with targeted medical therapy. This report highlights the clinical course, intervention, and outcomes, offering insight into the management of high-risk variceal bleeding cases complicated by chronic liver disease.
