Design and Comparison of LCL Filters in STATCOM
The LCL filter is indispensable for grid-connected inverters, as it masterfully mitigates harmonic distortion in the output current. By effectively attenuating high-frequency harmonics, the filter not only ensures compliance with stringent grid standards, but also significantly enhances overall power quality, thus safeguarding against risks such as overheating and equipment damage. This paper investigates the performance of an LCL filter integrated with a 50 kVAR STATCOM, comparing two design methods based on their inductance values. The simulation results from the proposed design reveal a remarkable improvement in waveform quality, producing a smooth sinusoidal output with minimal harmonic distortion.
