Assessment in Distribution System Integrated with Distributed Generation
The technological advancements and desire to get clean, and low-cost electric power has encouraged the use of Distributed Generation (DG) using renewable energy sources (RES) in distribution system. The incorporation of DG helps in reducing real power losses and improves the reliability of distribution system. But the increased penetration of DG has raised concerns regarding complexity of power flow and reliability. Minimizing power losses has an economic impact on the utility, and reliable power delivery benefits both the utility and consumers. Numerous factors, including system interconnection, loading patterns, and the type of DG being utilized, influence the optimal DG size and position for loss minimization and reliability. This paper aims to analyze the impact of penetration of RES in distribution system by evaluating power losses and reliability in RBTS bus 2 distribution system. The performance is measured using various reliability indices. The presence of DG leads to power loss reduction, improvement in reliability indices and saving in energy cost.
