Architecting Test-Friendly Multi-Mode Scan Flip-Flops for Modern Low-Power Digital Systems

As digital circuits become increasingly complex and densely packed, there is a pressing need for effective testing and power management solutions. In this project, a multi mode scan flip-flop with three separate operating modes normal, test, and sleep is introduced. Enhancing testability while cutting power consumption is the primary objective, particularly while performing non-essential tasks. The flip-flop operates normally as a typical data store and transfer device. It functions as a scan flip-flop in test mode, making it simple to access internal states for testing and verification, which improves fault detection capabilities. The purpose of the sleep mode is to minimize static power draw by drastically reducing power consumption while the circuit is not in use. The flip-flop architecture incorporates control logic to make this easier and provide seamless mode transitions based on operational requirements. The flip-flop effectively maintains its resources while upholding performance requirements thanks to this control logic. The design’s ability to achieve power savings and functionality in all modes will be demonstrated by the simulation results. In the end, this project seeks to address the major issues facing contemporary electrical design in order to progress the creation of more testable and energy-efficient digital systems. Future integrated circuit and system-on-chip designs will benefit greatly from the suggested multi-mode scan flip-flop’s adaptable scanning mechanism and power-saving characteristics.
