Digital Pedagogies and Inclusive Learning: A Comparative Study Across Socio-Economic Contexts in Indian Classrooms

The integration of digital pedagogies into mainstream education has significantly reshaped the Indian classroom, offering the potential for inclusive and equitable learning across diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This study investigates the comparative effectiveness of digital pedagogical approaches in promoting inclusive education among students from higher and lower socio- economic strata within urban and rural Indian schools. Drawing on both qualitative and quantitative data, the research explores digital accessibility, teacher preparedness, infrastructural disparities, and student engagement in the context of digital learning. The study involved structured surveys with students and educators across various districts representing both well-resourced urban institutions and under-resourced rural setups. A five-item questionnaire was administered, focusing on access to digital tools, the presence of trained digital educators, and student perceptions of inclusivity. Results reveal stark contrasts in digital integration, with higher socio-economic urban schools showing significantly better access to digital devices, teaching aids, and pedagogical support. Conversely, rural schools often lack the infrastructure and trained personnel required to effectively implement digital learning strategies. The findings underscore the critical role of socio-economic context in determining the inclusivity of digital education. Despite policy-level initiatives such as Digital India and SWAYAM, a significant digital divide persists. The paper concludes by advocating for targeted policy interventions aimed at reducing the rural-urban digital disparity, including teacher training programs, infrastructure investment, and inclusive curriculum design. The study contributes to the growing discourse on equitable digital education by offering empirical insights and recommending frameworks that prioritize inclusive digital pedagogy across socio-economic divides in India.
