Entrepreneurship Education and Innovation Culture: A Quantitative Study of Indian Higher Education Institutions

The intersection of entrepreneurship education and innovation culture within higher education institutions (HEIs) plays a pivotal role in shaping future economic and social development. This research investigates the current status, effectiveness, and institutional readiness of Indian HEIs in promoting entrepreneurial competencies and fostering innovation-driven mindsets among students. The study specifically evaluates the presence of entrepreneurship- focused curricula, integration of innovation into teaching methodologies, support systems such as incubators and funding, and student-faculty alignment on entrepreneurial practices. Using a structured questionnaire administered to 200 participants, comprising both faculty members and students from 10 reputed Indian universities, the study gathers comparative insights into institutional strategies and experiential outcomes. The five core questions examined structured courses, incubator engagement, curriculum innovation, mentorship access, and startup funding availability. The results demonstrate a high level of institutional acknowledgment from faculty, with 80% confirming the presence of structured entrepreneurship courses. However, student perception is notably lower across all variables, suggesting a disconnect between strategic planning and ground- level implementation. The findings underscore critical gaps in mentorship availability and startup funding, with less than 50% of students confirming active support. While 85% of faculty members report integration of innovation into the curriculum, only 72% of students perceive this alignment, highlighting the need for participatory curriculum design and feedback loops. The paper includes a case study comparing two institutions—one public and one private—revealing that institutional autonomy and industry linkages significantly influence entrepreneurial ecosystem success. In conclusion, the paper advocates for a holistic redesign of entrepreneurship education models, prioritizing experiential learning, interdisciplinary innovation, and collaborative ecosystems. It calls for increased investment in student-centric initiatives, faculty training, and university- industry partnerships. These reforms are crucial not only for enhancing graduate employability but also for nurturing a generation capable of creating sustainable and scalable ventures. This research contributes to policy formulation, curriculum development, and institutional planning for fostering a national culture of entrepreneurship in Indian higher education
