Impact of Urbanisation on Soil and Water Quality of Dhanauri Wetland, Uttar Pradesh, India

AbstractDhanauri wetland, located in Greater Noida, Gautam Budhha Nagar, India, is facing significant threats from anthropogenic activities, such as drainage, land conversion, pollution, and climate change, leading to degradation and loss of ecological benefits. Seasonal soil and water sampling was conducted to analyse nutrient enrichment, salinity, and contamination levels. The results indicated increasing pH levels, nutrient accumulation, and heavy metal concentrations, notably cadmium and nickel mostly on account of anthropogenic activities. High pollution levels have serious implications on soil and plant health. These findings highlight the urgent need for developing effective management strategies and continuous monitoring to mitigate pollution, enhance soil health, and preserve the ecological integrity of wetland ecosystems.
