Isolated Hematosalpinx as a Cause of Acute Abdominal Pain in a Young Child: A Case Report
Hematosalpinx, is the collection of blood in the fallopian tubes. It is rare in pediatric patients, especially those without any underlying pathology. We present a case of isolated hematosalpinx with tubal torsion in a 12-year-old prepubertal girl with no significant medical history. She presented with abdominal pain and fever.Total leukocyte count was elevated and clinically suspected to have acute appendicitis.Ultrasound revealed a probable hematosalpinx with torsion of the right fallopian tube.Laparoscopy confirmed the findings and detorsion was performed. The ovaries were normal. However, the patient returned with recurrent symptoms resulting in laparoscopic right salpingectomy. This case underscores the need to consider tubal pathology in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen in female children.
