THE ROLE OF SAFETY PROCEDURES AND WORKER TRAINING IN THE CONSTRUCTIONS OF THE TERMINAL BUILDING AT CONSTANTINE THE GREAT AIRPORT NIŠ

Brief content - abstract: The construction of the terminal building of Niš "Konstantin Veliki" Airport is a complex construction undertaking that includes the application of specialized safety procedures and continuous training of workers in order to ensure a high level of occupational health and safety protection. Given the specificity of the work environment, which includes risks such as foreign objects (FOD), falls from a height, working with heavy equipment, as well as the proximity of operational infrastructure, the introduction of precise safety measures lays the foundation for reducing injuries and accidents during project implementation. The safety procedures on this project include a comprehensive framework of general and specific guidelines, from the use of personal protective equipment to mandatory safety rules that apply when working in confined spaces and working at height. Implementation of these procedures is key to protecting workers from potential hazards, thereby enabling the smooth and safe flow of construction work. In addition, the trainings were conducted with the aim of developing workers' skills in the safe use of equipment, as well as evacuation procedures and emergency response in emergency situations. Through structured training, the workers became familiar with all safety standards and legislative frameworks, including the laws of the Republic of Serbia and international norms that regulate safety and health at work in the construction industry. All employees participating in the construction of the terminal building received training covering general safety measures, while specific training related to work in the airport environment, such as foreign object protection (FOD), was conducted for workers in critical areas. In addition, the project is fully compliant with current legislation and international standards, which ensures continuity of worker protection and minimization of potential risks. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of the conducted trainings enable timely adjustment of safety procedures in accordance with changes on the construction site and the specifics of each work segment. Integrating these procedures and training into day-to-day construction activities allows achieving an optimal level of safety, reduces the risk of accidents and injuries, and contributes to a more efficient and safer completion of the terminal building construction project, in accordance with environmental protection and the highest industry standards.
