PROCEDURES AS MEASURES FOR SAFE AND HEALTHY WORK
If risk is defined as the ratio of the probability of the occurrence of a dangerous event and the severity of the consequences of that dangerous event, i.e. the appearance of an injury or illness caused by the action of danger and/or harmfulness, then the basic goal of all factors in the system of safety and health at work is recognized, which is the reduction of risk to workplaces. In order to manage the risk, i.e. to keep the risk under control, safety and health measures at work are applied. These are general preventive measures and specific measures that can also be called procedures for safe and healthy work. Procedures are one of the options of specific measures for safe and healthy work and refer to a specific recognized hazard and/or harm that may endanger health or lead to an injury at work or an unwanted event. Creating a procedure implies a recommendation for the application of the ISO 9001/2001 standard, and in fact each procedure must fulfill four essential components in order to be an adequate protection measure: Who (something) does, how (in what way he performs a certain activity), how long (long, intensively, etc. .) and of course: what (he should do) he does. In healthcare, when we do procedures for disposing of non-sterile needles, for example, and other sharp instruments, venous catheters, etc. it is necessary to accurately describe the procedure for proper and safe disposal in order to avoid accidents and diseases. The paper will list examples of only a certain number of specific procedures that are applied in the health sector and emphasize the hierarchy of measures for safe and healthy work. It will be stated how the procedure is a measure for safe and healthy work and how the accreditation of health institutions improves not only the quality of health services but also safety and health at work and vice versa.
