An Improved SMC with Gains Adaptation for a DFIG Using Fuzzy Logic Technique

This paper proposes a new method for power control of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) by integrating fuzzy gain adaptation with sliding mode control (SMC). While SMC effectively addresses system nonlinearities and external disturbances, it often leads to disruptive chattering. To address this issue, the paper suggests employing adaptive fuzzy-SMC, where fuzzy logic adjusts switching gains to mitigate chattering. Additionally, the paper presents a vector control approach for the DFIG to regulate both active and reactive power sent to the grid. Multiple numerical simulation scenarios were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. The findings demonstrate resilience to parameter changes and superior response characteristics, without exhibiting the chattering phenomenon typically observed in conventional SMC approaches.
