The Impact of Large Language Models on Efficiency and Productivity

Large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 have transformed natural language processing and artificial intelligence. This research examines the integration of LLMs into analyzing efficiency and productivity, traditionally dominated by quantitative measures and statistical methodologies. The research focuses on enhancing traditional productivity analysis methods such as Total Factor Productivity (TFP), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) using LLMs. The user aims to integrate LLMs to address gaps in traditional methods, specifically in terms of data quality, hypothesis validation, computational complexity, and interpretability. The research also highlights the features, scalability, community support, and multilingual capabilities of well-known LLMs like GPT-4, BERT, and T5. We analyze traditional methods of productivity analysis, such as total factor productivity (TFP), data envelopment analysis (DEA), and stochastic frontier analysis (SFA), and evaluate how LLMs can enhance these methods in terms of data quality, hypothesis validation, computational complexity, and interpretability. We have developed a schematic model that illustrates its interactions with traditional methods.
