Efficient Design of a Low-Profile Dual-Band Antenna With CMA and the Current Distribution Techniques
Efficient design of a low-profile dual-band antenna with characteristic mode analysis (CMA) and the current distribution techniques is proposed. Annular gaps and metal radiating arms are introduced to achieve the miniaturized and dual-band characteristics. Simultaneously, a 6×6 artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is used as a reflector plate to ensure the directed radiation at a low profile. To enhance antenna performance and reduce design time, the current distribution of the antenna and the CMA technology are incorporated to accomplish the optimization of the antenna topology. And the parameter sensitivity analysis techniques are employed to reduce the number of optimization variables. A prototype is fabricated and tested to validate the design concept. The measured results show the dual-band characteristics and gains greater than 6.20 dBi in both frequency bands. The proposed antenna finds extensive applications in both indoor and outdoor 5G application fields.
