Effect of mind sound resonance technique versus Jacobson’s relaxation technique on stress by assessing serum cortisol level and perception of stress: An experimental study

INTRODUCTION: Prevalence of stress is high among the young adults in India as compared to other countries. Among various techniques for stress management, Jacobson’s and mind sound resonance technique are proven to be effective in reducing stress individually, in our knowledge they are not compared for their effects in proposed population. To compare the effect of Mind Sound Resonance Technique and Jacobson’s relaxation therapy on mental stress assessing serum cortisol level, international stress management association score, and perceived stress scale. METHOD AND MATERIAL: Thirty-six female subjects were included in this study and they were placed into two groups (A&B) by the process of randomization A & B. Group A was induced relaxation through Mind Sound Resonance Technique (MSRT) and Group B using Jacobson’s relaxation technique (JRT). 10 sessions of therapy in two weeks duration were given for 30 minutes to both the groups. Pre and post Serum Cortisol levels along with International Stress Management Association Score (ISMA) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) scores were taken. RESULT: It was noticed that all parameter improved significantly with ‘ p ’ value less than 0.05, within group on pre-post analysis. Between groups analysis, it was noted that MSRT group improved better than PSS group but statistically it could not be established with ‘p’ value more than 0.05. CONCLUSION: It was noticed that MSRT group improved better than PSS group but statistically it could not be established so concluded that both the methods was equally effective in stress management. However both therapies may be used as an adjunct in treating stress condition.
