Abstract: The Multifaceted Active Agent: Reimagining Nature as a Living Entity in Indian Ocean Narratives
presentations covered a wide variety of topics: motherhood and the border in Chicana literature, W. Somerset Maugham and his spiritual and cultural legacy in Andalusia and Spain, ecocritical and ecofeminist approximations towards poetry, women in space, the surveillance of black bodies in contemporary African American Literature, fairy tale narratives in modern fantasy literature, an examination of US Literature after 9/11, maternity, fertility and loss in contemporary memoir, Victorian retellings of courtly love, metamodern mythopeias as reconciliatory spaces, father-daughter incest and sexual waste in Heart Berries, and the identification of counter-hegemonic approaches to cultural diversity in Torontobased fiction.Coordinators for the Linguistics panel were Beln Mndez Naya (University of Santiago) and Cristina Surez Gmez (University of the Balearic Islands). In turn, Rosario Arias and Alberto Lzaro were in charge of the cultural and literary one.As previously, Julia Williams acted as local coordinator and Alberto once again led the Q&A session. The evaluation received from the participants was very positive, to the extent that some of them suggested extending the number of sessions and days. This will have to be considered for further editions.Thinking of future seminars, members of AEDEAN could also become more active in the distribution of information to their doctoral students, particularly in the case of Linguistics, where the number of contributions has declined considerably. In conclusion, I have nothing but praise and gratitude for all those who took part in these five editions of the Doctoral Seminar, be they doctoral students, coordinators, guest speakers, or university representatives. The whole experience was very rewarding and extremely valuable, both personally and academically.Special thankfulness goes
