Insights From Around the World: the 2025 Japanese Heart Failure Guidelines
Universally the prevalence of heart failure (HF) is increasing due to improved evidence-based treatment of chronic HF, treatment of underlying causes such as ischemic heart disease, and an aging population. While the prognosis of HF has generally improved, outcomes remain poor, and the burden of HF on health care systems around the world is substantial.(1,2) All of this is particularly true in Japan where an aging population further exacerbates the strain on the health care system and society. Curently, 29% of the population (36 million) of Japan is ≥65 years old, which is expected to further increase to 38% in 2050.(3) While the matter of an aging population is most pronounced in Japan, a similar trend is observed worldwide.
