The first record of the three spot gourami Trichopodus trichopterus in Mexico was registered in September 2022.Eight individuals (one female and seven males) from 59.9 to 78.7 mm standard length were captured in the Alvarado Lagoon System, Veracruz.Three spot gourami is considered as a high-risk species in Mexico and accidental release of the species may have occurred due to aquarium activities. We discuss possible routes of introduction and potential ecological effects.
