Bio-Based Rice Husk Ash as an Eco-Friendly Filler in Pre-Vulcanized Latex Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course Mixtures

This study investigates rice husk ash (RHA) as a filler substitute in pre-vulcanized latex asphalt mixtures. RHA replaced conventional rock ash at 50% and 100% substitution levels, while latex was added at 7% and 9% by weight. RHA characteristics were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and asphalt mixtures were evaluated through Marshall stability and Stiffness Modulus tests. Results showed that RHA enhanced Marshall stability by 27.12% to 52.12%, with the highest stability observed at 100% substitution. Stiffness modulus increased by 15.49% to 42.60% at 25°C and 1.42% to 15.64% at 40°C, improving material performance. These findings indicate that RHA is a promising filler alternative, enhancing the engineering properties of asphalt mixtures for road construction.
