Advanced Otoplasty Techniques in Goldenhar Syndrome: A Comprehensive Approach to Microtia and Ear Malformation Reconstruction
Goldenhar Syndrome, also known as oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum (OAVS), is a congenital disorder characterized by craniofacial anomalies, including microtia, hemifacial macrosomia, and vertebral defects. Among its most challenging manifestations is the malformation of the external ear, which requires meticulous surgical intervention to restore both aesthetic and functional integrity. This article explores contemporary otoplasty techniques tailored specifically for patients with Goldenhar Syndrome, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates autologous rib cartilage grafting, porous polyethylene implants, and soft tissue reconstruction. We review preoperative assessment protocols, intraoperative modifications, and postoperative care strategies to optimize outcomes in this complex patient population. Additionally, we discuss the psychosocial impact of ear reconstruction and the importance of individualized treatment planning to address the unique anatomical variations presented in Goldenhar Syndrome.
