Residents’ Perceived-DSR of Local Tourism Developers and Tourism Development Attitude: Mediating Role of Emotional Solidarity with Tourists and Place Attachment
Purpose This study aims to confirm the influence of local residents’ perceptions of tourism development on the Destination Social Responsibility (DSR) of local tourism authorities. As corporate social responsibility (CSR) gains attention in tourism, normative efforts to reduce environmental impact are essential. Methods A self-administered survey was conducted with 386 local tourism businesses involving residents of Hainan, Sanya, China. Respondents were evenly distributed by gender and years of residence. Using Jamovi 2.6.44, demographic analysis, reliability/validity testing, model fit, path, and mediating effects were examined. Results Perception of environmental DSR significantly affected tourism development attitude (H1), emotional solidarity with tourists (H2), and regional attachment (H4). Emotional solidarity (H3) and regional attachment (H5) also influenced tourism development attitude, and both played mediating roles (H6, H7). Conclusion Environmental DSR activities by tourism authorities shape positive tourism attitudes by fostering emotional solidarity and regional attachment among residents. Thus, shared values among stakeholders are key to successful tourism development.
