A Study on Ways to Activate Accessible Tourism Destinations Through News Coverage Analysis: Focusing on the Case of Chuncheon
Purpose The main purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the Accessible Tourism Destination policy by analyzing the news coverage of Chuncheon Accessible Tourism Destination. Specifically, we aimed to diagnose the keywords used in the news coverage of the accessible tourism destination and whether the policy process and achievements are covered continuously after the time of selection. In addition, we aimed to suggest policy improvements by examining its social acceptability and regional impact on Chuncheon's publicity and image enhancement. Methods We collected 10 years of news articles (2015-2024) on five accessible tourism destinations in Chuncheon using BIGKinds and conducted comparative analysis of coverage before and after 2019 selection and 2024 selection through word cloud, TF-IDF, and sentiment analysis using Textom. Results One of the most notable findings is that keywords for new destinations, tourist destinations, and new targets (youth, dogs, foreigners, etc.) have emerged in 2019. In addition, sentiment analysis shows that positive words such as like, interest, and joy dominate, but some negative words such as fear and rejection also appear. Conclusion This study will contribute to the expansion of policy effectiveness research centered on the analysis of news coverage, and will provide a basis for decision-making in the effective implementation of open tourism policies and promotion strategies in the future.
