Whole-Angle Gyroscopes on Mass-Production Process: Dual Foucault Pendulum vs Disk Resonant Gyroscope
This work compares different designs of yaw gyroscopes, symmetric with respect to two in-plane axes, fabricated in a mass-production surface micro-machining process. The comparison accounts for aniso-stiffness (mode mismatch) and quality factor, which are key parameters in determining position estimation errors in whole-angle (WA) gyroscopes. Measurements indicate that disk resonator gyroscopes (DRGs) are more tolerant to fabrication imperfections than dual Foucault pendulum (DFPs), yielding a lower average value and standard deviation in terms of resonance frequency mismatch. However, DFP devices achieve larger quality factors.
