Modelling and Study of PMSM Driven Gravity Energy Storage System Under Different Operation Conditions
This paper presents a study on the modeling and control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) driven Gravity Energy Storage (GES) system under different operating conditions. As existing research has not investigated the use of PMSMs in GES systems or their ability to flexibly adjust power output. This work addresses it by developing an electromechanical model of a PMSM-driven GES system, including the mechanical subsystem, motor dynamics, and control subsystem. A 1 MW PMSM driven GES is designed and its performance is evaluated through simulations, focusing on motor speed, power output, and three-phase currents under different operating conditions. Results demonstrate the system’s capability to achieve flexible power control, making it a promising solution for grid-scale energy storage and renewable energy integration.
