Optimizing Hybrid Microgrids Stability Based on Bidirectional AC/DC Converters

This paper adopts a unified control strategy for bidirectional AC/DC interconnection converters in hybrid microgrids, proposed by Junjun Wang from Nanyang Technological University. The strategy integrates multiple control architectures of the multifunctional BIC—including power management, AC voltage support, and DC voltage regulation—into a coordinated framework. In traditional control strategies, the system is required to switch between different operational modes in response to network condition variations, which poses challenges to system reliability and rapid response. In contrast, the unified control architecture eliminates mandatory mode-switching mechanisms during power network operational scenario changes. This fundamentally avoids adverse consequences such as system instability or collapse caused by inaccurate or delayed mode switching. To validate the effectiveness and stability of the proposed strategy, experiments were conducted through simulations of load variations and power connection/disconnection scenarios across both AC and DC sides.
