Use of Google Gemini to Classify and Generate American and British Spelling Variants of Biomedical Terms

The English language has many spelling variants for biomedical terms. Information processing systems can infer incorrect semantics due to spelling differences. This project compares the use of Google Gemini to classify terms as either an American or British spelling variant. Gemini is also used to generate spelling variants of the term. The classification and variants produced by Gemini are compared with an existing proprietary dictionary system. Both version 1.5 and version 2.0 of Gemini are evaluated. We conclude that Gemini is improving at both classification and generation of American and British spelling variants of biomedical terms but still not performing as well as the existing proprietary dictionary system.
