Social life cycle assessment of biomass power systems in China: a case study

In China, biomass power generation represents a significantly promising sector within the clean energy domain. Social impact assessment is a crucial part of the sustainable development of biomass power generation. The article aims to holistically explore the societal efficacy of a representative biomass power system in China through the social life cycle assessment. The results indicated that the construction process had the highest cumulative social impact of biomass power systems, which was 211889.40 medium risk equivalent hours, accounting for $89 \%$ of the total risk. The impact in the operation process was the second largest, accounting for $10 \%$. The cumulative social impact of biomass acquisition process and transportation process is low.Of these, the use of raw materials was the main contributing component to social impact. Especially the materials of coal and iron ore, which has the serious problems of child labor employment and safety guarantee in the preparation stage. Finally, some recommendations, such as optimizing industrial structure, standardizing recovery and treatment, and promoting green transformation in related fields, give full play to the sustainability of biomass power generation.
